Men's Work Center Release Paths
VADOC lists Deerfield Men's Work Center as a separate current facility entry in Capron. Its work-center name does not mean that a resident is already out of custody. Authorized work or lower-security placement remains part of the state sentence until VADOC records a discharge, parole release, post-release supervision move, or transfer. The Southampton Sheriff has no authority over that state release record.
A person can leave the work center for another VADOC institution and remain an inmate. A person can also enter the community under probation, parole, or post-release supervision, which means a district office rather than the institution becomes the key location. Full discharge is different again. Read the status, location, and date together. The physical move away from Old Belfield Road does not by itself identify which legal path occurred.

When it is unavailable, use the exact name and only supported filters. Check the live terms because search fields and display labels can change.

- Use middle name, alias, age range, or location filters when the live form offers them.

If the result names another institution, the person transferred. If it names a probation or parole district, the person may be in the community under supervision. Men's Work Center Release Documents
VADOC's official facility release guidance says a person leaving on discharge or parole receives a notification-of-release letter. That person-specific document is stronger proof of a completed release than a name dropping from an active institution result. It should be read beside the final status and any community-supervision assignment.
Facility staff return personal property as part of the state process. The release envelope may contain identity papers and educational documents. The business office provides offender-account funds except in a detainer situation, supplements an account below twenty-five dollars to twenty-five dollars, and forwards funds posted after release within five business days. Men's Work Center Release Travel
VADOC records staff decide whether transportation will use public transit or pickup by approved family or friends. The business office can arrange bus travel when applicable. Weather permitting, VADOC says a person leaving a state facility on discharge or parole is released by 11:59 p.m. on the release date. That deadline is not a guaranteed pickup hour.
Confirm the approved plan before driving to Old Belfield Road. The research found no public waiting-area instructions or person-specific exit schedule for this work center. A projected date may also change before the completed event. The person should rely on the facility plan and release letter, while family or friends should use authorized contact channels. Applying the state deadline to the Southampton County Jail Farm would be wrong because the Sheriff has not published the same rule.

Men's Work Center Supervised Release
Leaving Deerfield Men's Work Center can begin a term of probation, parole, or post-release supervision. Probation is community supervision ordered by a court. None means the person remains housed at the work center, but each may carry active conditions.

ICE Detainers After Work Center Release
A detainer can change the next custodian at the end of a VADOC term. In a detainer case, the business-office funds process also differs under VADOC's published guidance. If the release record names ICE, the person has left VADOC custody for immigration custody rather than the community. Record the receiving agency and time of handoff.
ICE says a detainer requests continued custody for up to forty-eight hours past the ordinary release point so ICE can assume control. Search the ICE Online Detainee Locator after a documented handoff, using the A-number and country of birth or supported biographical information. Official guidance says recent releases appear for about sixty days. Display gaps and transfer lag are possible, so an online no-result is not proof of release into the community.
A VADOC discharge date and an ICE custody date answer different questions. Preserve both and avoid merging them into one release label. When the state record identifies another agency, follow that agency's official channel before describing a community outcome. This sequence keeps the Deerfield event accurate even when the receiving system has not yet posted a searchable result.
Men's Work Center Facility Identity
Southampton County has two overlapping work-related custody settings. The Sheriff operates a local Jail Farm with a work-release program. VADOC separately lists Deerfield Men's Work Center and Deerfield Men's Work Center 2. The state centers share an address and complex telephone, yet each has its own current directory entry. The operator and inmate number decide which record system applies.
Older correctional reports also mention Southampton Correctional Center and Deerfield Women's Work Center. Those names are not separate current lookup destinations in the VADOC directory. Use historical records only to interpret an older institutional entry. For a current search, rely on the live state directory and exact work-center name. This matters because “work release” at the Sheriff's farm and a VADOC work-center placement are not interchangeable terms. A dated state record may retain an older label, so pair it with the VADOC number before following the current facility path.
