Work Center 2 Release Outcomes
Deerfield Men's Work Center 2 belongs to the Virginia Department of Corrections. Its Capron address places it in Southampton County, but state custody rules and records control every release or transfer. The work-center designation describes a VADOC facility setting. It does not mean that a resident has ended the custodial sentence or become a local Jail Farm participant.
Three paths deserve separate labels. Discharge ends the relevant state custody term. Community supervision places the person under an assigned probation or parole district. Transfer moves the person to another VADOC institution or possibly to a different custodian. In each case, the person leaves Work Center 2, yet only the first two may involve entry into the community. Even then, supervision conditions or another hold can remain.

Use the statewide Inmate and Supervisee Locator. It is broader than a prison roster because it can direct users to current institutions and supervision districts. It is still a changing public interface, not a certified history of every state custody event. Search fields and detail labels should be read as they appear on the access date.
- Open the locator, accept the current disclaimer, and complete the required access check.
- Search by the seven-digit VADOC number whenever it is known.
- For a name search, enter the supported first and last name portions and use justified filters.
- Confirm the identifier, biographical details, and exact facility or district before selecting the match.
- Write down the displayed status and date label without changing “projected” into “actual.”
- Request VADOC records when the result omits the needed historical release or transfer event.

Note: A common name is not enough; match the VADOC number and exact work-center entry whenever possible.

Shared contact details do not mean the directory entries are interchangeable, and the VADOC number remains the most useful person-level key.

Work Center 2 Release Dates
A displayed future date is a calculation under current sentence and credit information. It is not proof of a completed departure. VADOC may revise a projected date after receiving corrected sentencing orders or local jail-credit records. Concurrent and consecutive terms, new or vacated sentences, earning-class changes, forfeited or restored credits, and interruptions in custody can also affect the calculation.
Virginia's credit rules vary by offense date and statutory category. The familiar eighty-five-percent phrase is not a safe personal formula. Some older eligible cases use good-conduct allowances, while later cases generally use earned sentence credits with differing rates and exclusions. Keep the exact wording and access date. If a calculation appears wrong, compare the sentencing order, jail-credit information, and VADOC time computation rather than using an outside estimate.
Work Center 2 Release Day
VADOC's facility release guidance supplies several state-specific details. A person leaving on discharge or parole receives a notification-of-release letter. Weather permitting, VADOC says release occurs by 11:59 p.m. on the scheduled date. Records staff choose between public transportation and pickup by approved family or friends, and the business office can arrange bus transport when applicable.
Facility staff return personal property. An envelope may hold identity and educational papers. The business office normally provides offender-account funds, except where a detainer changes the process. An account under twenty-five dollars is supplemented to twenty-five dollars, and money posted later is forwarded within five business days. These published steps describe the state procedure, not a guarantee about what a named person owns, receives, or carries on release day.
Confirm transportation before traveling. No public source in the research gives a specific Work Center 2 waiting area, exit door, or pickup time. The outside deadline does not replace instructions from facility staff.

Work Center 2 Supervision Path
Community release can lead to probation, parole, or post-release supervision. The locator may show the assigned district rather than the former institution. That is evidence that the person is in the state community-corrections path, not proof that all legal duties ended. A discharge from prison and a discharge from supervision can occur at different times.

Do not assume that office from the prison's location. The actual district follows the supervision assignment and planned residence, and transfers between districts can occur. ICE Detainers at Work Center 2
An ICE detainer may turn the end of a VADOC term into a custodial handoff. ICE states that a detainer asks an agency to maintain custody for up to forty-eight hours beyond the ordinary release point so ICE can assume custody. When the VADOC record identifies ICE as the destination, describe the event as release from state custody to ICE, not release to the community.
Search the ICE Online Detainee Locator System with the A-number and country of birth or available biographical details. Official guidance says recent releases remain in that locator for about sixty days. Transfers can produce a delay, and not all people or stages display. Keep the VADOC release record and receiving-agency details. A missing ICE result does not contradict a documented handoff without more evidence.
Record the state handoff and any later ICE release as two distinct events. The VADOC document answers when Work Center 2 custody ended. The ICE record answers what happened under the next custodian.
Work Center 2 Facility History
The current VADOC directory controls the name Deerfield Men's Work Center 2. It lists this facility separately from Deerfield Men's Work Center, even though both use the same Capron address and telephone. Deerfield Correctional Complex has a different street address. Exact naming is therefore more useful than a broad reference to “the Deerfield complex.”
Historical sources discuss Southampton Correctional Center and Deerfield Women's Work Center. Those names are not separate operating destinations in the current directory. They may be relevant when reading an older file, but a current release inquiry should not be sent to a legacy unit. Southampton County also has a Sheriff-run Jail Farm, which is a local facility and work-release program. It is not Work Center 2 and does not use the VADOC locator for every participant.
Establish the operator, address, facility name, and inmate number before drawing any conclusion. This local geography is the reason a “Capron release” can otherwise lead to the wrong office and the wrong kind of record.
